D-backs reinstate infielder Pennington, option Bo Schultz to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks have taken veteran utility man Cliff Pennington off of the disabled list and optioned reliever Bo Schultz to Triple-A Reno.

Pennington has been on the disabled list since June 1st with a torn thumb ligament that required surgery. In his rehab stint with the Reno Aces, Pennington had a line of .385/.529/.385. He will likely split time with Jordan Pacheco at third base, and also play some shortstop to give Didi Gregorius and Nick Ahmed some rest.

Bo Schultz has struggled since being recalled from Reno, with a 7.88 ERA with a WHIP of 1.750 in four appearances this season. However, Schultz will likely get the call back up to the big league team when MLB rosters expand in September.
