Diamondbacks, Cubs could revisit Jeff Samardzija trade talks
This past offseason, the Arizona Diamondbacks were rumored to have a lot of interest in Chicago Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija. However, a trade never happened.
Following the news of D-backs all-star Patrick Corbin having UCL damage and possibly needing Tommy John surgery, why shouldn’t Arizona rekindle their talks with the Cubs about Samardzija?
According to Bruce Levin of WSCR-AM and 670thescore.com, there is a real possibility that the two teams will discuss the trade again.

The Diamondbacks’ intent to land a front-line starter this offseason were well-documented, with the team being one of the finalists to land Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. Instead, Arizona ended up with Bronson Arroyo from the Cincinnati Reds.
The Diamondbacks are in win-now mode, and the Cubs are in rebuilding mode. It only makes sense for the Diamondbacks to be looking for a top-of-the-rotation starter, and for the Cubs to look to shore up their minor-league system, specifically their pitching depth. Don’t be surprised if you see a deal between the two teams coming in the next week or so.
