Diamondbacks promote top prospect Jake Lamb to Major Leagues

In a lost season like this for the Diamondbacks, these are the moments that fans can get excited for.

Diamondbacks #5 prospect (and top hitting prospect) 3B Jake Lamb is set to be promoted to the Major Leagues today and veteran infielder Andy Marte has been designated for assignment, according to the team’s official Twitter account.

Lamb tore up the minor leagues at a Paul Goldschmidt-like pace, hitting .318 with 14 homers and 70m RBIs in Double-A Mobile. Lamb was promoted to Triple-A Reno last week, where he already had hit .500 with a home run and 5 RBIs.

Looking forward, Lamb looks the part of the Diamondbacks’ third baseman of the future. The trade of Martin Prado was likely made with the idea that the 2012 6th round pick would take Prado’s place nicely.
