Diamondbacks recall pitcher Bo Schultz, option Alfredo Marte to Reno

  • Dylan Veltkamp

The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled right handed pitcher Bo Schultz from Triple-A Reno and have optioned outfielder Alfredo Marte back to the Aces.

The 28-year-old made his Major League debut with the Diamondbacks back in March in Australia. He pitched one inning, and gave up one hit and no runs. In 7 seasons as a minor-leaguer in the A’s and Diamondbacks’ organizations, Schultz has a 4.21 ERA, including a 5.75 ERA this year, albeit in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

Alfredo Marte has played in 16 games this year in two stints with the major league club, mostly as a pinch-hitter. He has only a .258 batting average, but recently hit his first career home run, which just happened to be a grand slam, against the Phillies. Should another outfielder get injured, Marte would likely be the candidate to return back to the Diamondbacks.
