Australian prospect compares himself to Russell Westbrook and Manu Ginobili
Australian point guard Dante Exum is relatively unknown compared to USA college basketball players, but some have suggested that he could end up being the best player out of this year’s NBA Draft. At 6-foot-6, Exum is very long, athletic and versatile. Exum’s scouting report video shows the 18 year-old is good at creating for others while having a good handle.
Exum, at 18 years-old, is one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft because of his age. In addition, Exum has said in the past he patterns his game after Chicago Bull’s star Derrick Rose. I’m not sure I see the similarity, but Exum also believes he’s a cross between Russell Westbrook and Manu Ginobili. While we’re at it, why don’t we just toss in LeBron James and Kevin Durant!
“I can’t look at one player and say that’s who I play like, but I can see different traits that players have that I see: I look at Russell Westbook as that explosive point guard that can get to the rim, and also Manu Ginoboli when he gets into the paint and the way he can finish. It’s just looking at different players and what they can do, and how that can help my game.”
While Exum doesn’t receive the exposure of players such as Julius Randle, Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid, he did play well in the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit against the American players. Exum had 16 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the game that also featured Andrew Wiggins. It’s anyone’s guess where Exum will land, but whomever selects the Australian guard, could have the steal of the draft.
