Ray Allen Calls Out David West For Choosing The Indiana Pacers
Ray Allen, who’s normally soft-spoken, was pretty blunt when telling ESPNBoston.com his feelings on David West choosing the Indiana Pacers over his aging Boston Celtics saying,
“Once it got down to the end, I think his ego kicked back in,” Allen said. “He wanted the dollars. I guess it comes down to ‘What is a championship worth to you?”
Allen then responded by saying,
“Think of all the guys who have made $20 million and could be considered one of the best ever, but they get chided because they never won. We (the Big Three) all had to do less when we won. We’re still taking less to make it work. But it’s worth it. No one can ever say to KG, Paul or me, ‘You guys never got your ring.’”
I was quite baffled by this last second change of mind swing by David West. First he’s 31 years old coming of a major knee injury, thus you probably don’t have much time left in your NBA career to chase and get a ring. Indiana is a young exciting team, but already has a plethora of players more than capable of playing the power forward position.
David West would have been a huge pickup for a Boston Celtics team on possibly its last leg to make a run for one last NBA championship. However, maybe Allen should question his general manager for not getting this deal done. The Celtics were trying to rid themselves of Jermaine O’Neal. Can we really blame the Hornets for not wanting that contract back?
Just another blow to this Celtics team that suddenly is looking older and more vulnerable by the day.
