VIDEO: Alex Rodriguez gets Bronx cheers and cheers from the Bronx fans in return

Facing a 200+ game suspension but appealing, New York Yankees 3B/DH returned to Yankee Stadium on Friday night, his first appearance in front of New York fans since the MLB commissioners office laid down the suspension through the 2014 season.  Rodriguez has been sidelined with a hip injury along with a few other ailments associated with approaching the age of 40.

The Yankees fans in attendance of their battle against the Tigers seemed to remember who he was, and, other than a few more vocal fans on both sides, it seems their reaction was about par for the course, a mix of cheers and boos.  Watch the fan reaction, courtesy of MLB.com:

The Rodriguez saga is about the only uncertainty in the 2013 season in the Bronx.  The Yankees are fading fast (11 games out of first, in 4th place), victims of too many injuries and perhaps, not enough young talent.  Ironically, the Yankees franchise might benefit from a suspension, if they get any salary relief out of it.  As it is, A-Rod is signed through the 2017 season.

David (a.k.a. Longhorndave or lhd_on_sports) joined the staff late in the 2012 season and moved to Site Manager in early 2013. A lifelong Houston Astros fan (and mini-season ticket holder for 9 years) he attends 20+ games per year. A statistics freak, David still keeps score the "old fashioned way" on occasion (and has kept manual score of World Series games since 1986 and retains the sheets). He was a featured guest weekly on the Phil Naessens Show. He is also a Texas Longhorns alumnus and huge football and baseball fan of his alma mater. When he isn't watching or writing about baseball, he works as a contractor at NASA Johnson Space Center. He lives by the mantra "a bad day at the ballpark is better than a good day anywhere else."
