According to Dan Kolko of MASN, there isn’t really a timetable for Nationals’ star Bryce Harper to return to game action, but Harper does have some interesting rehabilitation plans. Kolko spoke on the situation during last night’s Nationals’ broadcast:

He said, ‘I’m not going to rush back, I’m not going to do anything stupid.’ He’s more just focused on progressing day to day. He’s still not able to catch balls because of that left thumb, still not able to hit, just kind of going through range-of-motion exercises and he’s going to start using some PlayStation to work that thumb back into gear as he tries to make progress.

Harper even tweeted a picture of his “rehab equipment” yesterday:

Personally, I’m more of an Xbox One guy, but Microsoft’s console doesn’t have a baseball option (which is an abomination) whereas Sony’s PS4 has MLB: The Show. I can only assume that Harper has probably been playing at least a few quick games as the Nationals during part of his “rehab”. He has to keep his baseball mind sharp! Besides, who wouldn’t want to play as themselves in a game?

Harper hasn’t played since injuring his left thumb, more specifically his right ulnar collateral on a head-first slide into third; pictured above. He had surgery in April and has been on the road to recovery since.

In 22 games before injuring his thumb, Harper was hitting .289 with a home run and 9 runs batted in. The Nationals have hung in the race during Harper’s absence currently holding a record of (30-28) sitting one game behind the first place Atlanta Braves.

The Nats aren’t in a rush to get their star back before he’s ready, but I’m sure that countless fantasy owners are cursing him for playing video games instead of baseball.
