Bucs Reigning MVP on 15-day DL
Andrew McCutchen is headed to the 15-day disabled list because of a rib fracture and cartilage injuries on his left side, retroactive back to August 4. McCutchen was struck in the back with a fastball from D-backs reliever Randall Delgado on August 2nd in the ninth inning of the Pirates/Diamiondbacks game.
The reigning MVP thought he would be able to avoid the disabled list after a successful Friday batting session but as of now he is still nursing his injuries. McCutchen is having another superb season batting .311/.411/.536 (167 OPS+) with 32 doubles, five triples, 17 homers, 67 RBI and 17 steals. The Bucs will use the combination of Travis Snider, Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco and Josh Harrison to fill the void of McCutchen until he returns. Pittsburgh is in the hunt trailing both Milwaukee and St. Louis by 2 1/2 games in the NL Central.
Delgado was definitely not trying to pitch inside, we are still awaiting what Major League Baseball will do if anything.
