According to WBAL Radio News, Cal Ripken’s mother, Mrs. Vi Ripken, was abducted from her home in Harford County, Maryland, on Tuesday morning. She was found Wednesday morning around 6 a.m. not far from her home. Mrs. Ripken was unharmed, but the reported abduction is surely disturbing. Sources say that a man approached her, showing a gun, and forced Mrs. Ripken into her vehicle. At some point, she was duct taped, according to the sources. Her vehicle has taken to another location. At approximately 8:30 Tuesday night, Baltimore police received a call from a citizen reporting a suspicious vehicle in the area. Apparently, the citizen approached Mrs. Ripken’s vehicle. The driver of the vehicle said his mother was having a seizure, and he was taking her to the hospital. Fortunately, the citizen notified the police, but when the authorities arrived, the vehicle was gone.
Mrs. Ripken was found in her vehicle Wednesday morning. She was checked by medics and is reported to be in uninjured. Family members have comforted Mrs. Ripken, as she now recovers from the dramatic event. The motive for the abduction is not yet known. Whether this was a random abduction or if she were intentionally targeted is being investigated. The authorities are looking for a white male in his late 30′s to early 40′s. He is said to have been wearing a light-colored shirt, camouflage pants and eyeglasses.
Vi Ripken is the mother of Hall of Fame baseball player Cal Ripken Jr., MLB player Billy Ripken, Fred and Elly Ripken. The family gave the following statement:
As you now know, our mother was abducted at gunpoint from her home yesterday morning. This has been a very trying time for our family, but we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy.
We want to thank everyone for their tremendous support, especially all of the law enforcement agencies that worked so hard and quickly.
This is an ongoing investigation, so we hope everyone understands that we cannot comment further at this time. Thank you.
