Matt Cain, mind games or gamesmanship or both?

  • David Whitlock

Gotta love the mind games of the post season.  Nothing like facing the same team for up to seven games to try to get in their head.  Or is he?  Beat writer Andrew Baggarly Tweeted that Cain will throw inside on Holliday, under the guise of getting him out.  But if one gets away…

In case you missed the play in question: clip?id=espn:8510724 (about at the 30s mark).

What will be interesting is the reaction of the teams. This is a 1-1 series, likely to go six, maybe seven games. Who is the first to act aggressively and find themselves taking a shower for this game or more? How quick is the umpire to warn the benches? Or does this turn into a wrestling match in which the participants hug and jostle but nobody makes a move? Tune in tomorrow afternoon (5EDT, 2PDT) to find out!

Let’s hope it’s not a Pedro vs. Zimmer matchup: Dave (@lhd_on_sports)

A lifelong Houston Astros fan (and mini-season ticket holder for 9 years) he attends 20+ games per year. A statistics freak, David still keeps score the "old fashioned way" on occasion (and has kept manual score of World Series games since 1986 and retains the sheets).
