Dodgers A.J. Ellis’ daughter born in front seat of car

Los Angeles Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis is a pretty unique guy. The season is less than a month over, and Ellis has already had a pretty interesting off-season. A knee injury kept secret until the season ended and being a guest columnist at The Times  for the World Series have already headlined news for Ellis, but neither of those could compare to what recently happened: his daughter being born in the front seat of his car.

On the morning of October 12, Ellis’ wife Cindy’s water broke, at which point they jumped in the car and raced towards the hospital, which is 30 minutes away. With about 18 minutes remaining in the drive, Cindy had no choice but to give birth in the car to Audrey Elizabeth Ellis.

A.J. Ellis spoke in his usual comedic fashion about the situation:

“It was the first time I’d been through the whole procedure. I just figured we’d get to the hospital, she’d push for a couple hours, the baby would come and she’ll be fine. I thought everything was normal. I was just trying to be calm and supportive…I was halfway between cursing God and praising him. We had a pretty good conversation the rest of the way to the hospital, I was making deals…I feel bad…someday Audrey will ask where she was born, and I’ll say somewhere between mile marker 41 and 42.”
