Ernie Banks regales Wrigley crowd with “Take me out to the ballgame”

  • David Whitlock

The man is undoubtedly the best (clean) hitter in Chicago Cubs history.  But probably not the best singer.  Doesn’t matter, Mr. Cub regaled the opening day crowd at Wrigley Field, riling them up with “The Cubs will be supreme in 2013.”  Before an only slightly (friendly review) off-key rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame…”

Someone needs to give the organist a significant raise, wonder if it’s the same guy who had to keep pace with Harry Caray all those years?  Regardless, it was a fun day in Wrigleyville, although the hometown 9 came up short again, sliding to 2-5 on the season.  You can criticize the Cubs for the play on the field, but never for their traditional spirit.  Here’s hoping for many more opening days for Mr. Cub.  “Let’s Play Two”.
