The Baltimore Orioles LF Nate McLouth makes a running catch of a sure Colby Rasmus double, then tumbles head over heels into the front row at Toronto’s Rogers Centre. Torii Hunter plays catch with Leukemia patient named after him

Torii Hunter is widely regarded as one of the “good guys” of professional baseball. Great teammate and great human being. The latter was on display today, as he played catch with a youngster named Hunter. Yes, he was named after Torii by his huge Minnesota Twins fans parents, and they drove their son to Detroit as part of the Make-a-Wish foundation. Jesus Montero sent to AAA, no longer viewed as MLB caliber catcher

Yesterday I wrote an article expressing my appreciation for New York Yankees GM, Brian Cashman. Dealing with loads of taxes, inflated expectations, and emotional ownership is not easy and as hard as it is for anyone in New York to be underrated, I think he has become just that.

In yesterday’s article I lamented the Jesus Montero/Michael Pineda trade as one of his few mistakes, although not a big one. Today, news broke making it look much more favorable for the New York Yankees.

According to RotoWorld.com:

Mariners optioned C Jesus Montero to Triple-A Tacoma. Montero has been a major disappointment this season, batting just .208/.264/.327 with three home runs and nine RBI in 29 games. The Tacoma News Tribune reports Montero “may no longer viewed as a catcher at the big league level” and is expected play first base and DH in the minors.

It appears that Brian Cashman didn’t buy into all the hype that surrounded Montero before the trade. If Pineda comes back healthy this could even be a winner for the Yankees. Michael Pineda is expected back after the All-Star break. Expectations for Jesus Montero should be lowered from a Mike Piazza level to a Mitch Moreland level.

Yu Darvish Bobble Head

Here is a quick peek at the upcoming Yu Darvish bobble head doll. The Texas Rangers will be handing out bobble heads to the first 20,000 Texas Ranger fans on June 11, 2013 when the Texas host the Cleveland Indians. If you take a good look at the photo, you will notice that the Yu Darvish bobble head doll has included a strikeout counter. This is a way for fans to keep track of each time the Ranger ace strikes out a batter. So far in ten appearances this season, Yu Darvish leads Major League Baseball in strikeouts with 91 and he has a total of 312 career strikeouts in his first 39 career starts as a pro.

Rex Brothers – Kantor’s Fantasy Corner

If you’ve been sleeping on the waiver wire, Colorado Rockies closer, Rafael Betancourt, left an extra innings game on Tuesday with an apparent groin issue. He will get an MRI with results that will determine if he can avoid a DL stint. Rex Brothers, although left handed, will get the saves in his absence.

He has been unbelievable so far this season (hasn’t given up a run in a month) and is likely the closer of the future. He picked up his first career save Wednesday night. If you have a roster spot to spare, grab him up. If not, watch Rafael Betancourt and see if he hits the DL. If so, Rex Brothers is a must add.
