Jason Heyward Had Emergency Appendectomy Surgery Monday Night
Atlanta Braves right fielder Jason Heyward was placed on the 15 day DL Monday night after having emergency appendectomy. Heyward was experiencing severe abdominal pain and is now resting comfortably in a Denver hospital. The pain originally started a week ago during the Pittsburgh series and the Braves’ medical staff was notified about the situation on Monday when Heyward could no longer deal with the pain. Braves team doctor, Joe Chandler, ran test and it revealed the appendix was the problem. Chandler immediately scheduled emergency appendectomy which lasted 45 minutes.
Atlanta Braves Manager Fredi Gonzalez had a chance to visit Jason Heyward in the hospital and mention that:
“He was in good spirits, beat up a little bit, as you can expect, from the surgery,” Gonzalez said. “He’s just drained.”
Jayson Heyward should be back to his old self in about two weeks. Hopefully it will give him some needed rest so he can get out of his early season slump. As of right now he is having a dismal April batting .121BA 2HR and 5RBI early on in the season.
