Joel Peralta is Suspended Eight Games
According to Marc Topkin, of the Tampa Bay Times, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Joel Peralta has been suspended for his pine tar incident. The suspension is for eight games. Peralta will appeal the suspension. Davey Johnson, the Washington Nationals manager that requested that Peralta’s glove be inspected, has said that a ten game suspension would be way too severe. Apparently, the Rays organization believes that the eight game suspension is too severe under the circumstances.
The Peralta incident came days after Jose Valverde, of the Detroit Tigers, was caught on camera appearing to spit on the ball while it was in his glove. No action was taken against Valverde.
