WATCH: Jurickson Profar jacks his first home run of 2013, and it’s way out

  • David Whitlock

Texas Rangers phenom Jurickson Profar flashed some of the power that has scouts drooling over his potential in driving a pitch way over the right field wall in pitcher-friendly Safeco Field.  The jack led off the game against Seattle Mariners RHP Hisashi Iwakuma.  Watch the big shot, courtesy of MLB.com.

Profar is widely regarded as the top prospect in baseball, you wonder if the Rangers can afford to demote him when 3-time All Star Ian Kinsler returns from the disabled list.  Thus far, Profar is batting .263 with a hit in his last 4 games, and a run scored in his last 3 games.

Jurickson Profar got the start at his natural position of SS Sunday as Elvis Andrus got a rare start off (came off the bench later to score a go-ahead run that didn’t stand up).  At 20 years and 95 days, Profar became the youngest player in nearly 55 years to start a big-league game with a homer.

David Whitlock - manager

David (a.k.a. Longhorndave or lhd_on_sports) joined the staff late in the 2012 season and moved to Site Manager in early 2013. A lifelong Houston Astros fan (and mini-season ticket holder for 9 years) he attends 20+ games per year. A statistics freak, David still keeps score the "old fashioned way" on occasion (and has kept manual score of World Series games since 1986 and retains the sheets). He was a featured guest weekly on the Phil Naessens Show. He is also a Texas Longhorns alumnus and huge football and baseball fan of his alma mater. When he isn't watching or writing about baseball, he works as a contractor at NASA Johnson Space Center. He lives by the mantra "a bad day at the ballpark is better than a good day anywhere else."
