What looks to be an early pennant race in the A.L West; the Texas Rangers have closed the gap held by the Oakland A’s down to a game after winning three out of four in this week’s head-to-head series. Oakland and Texas are becoming a little bit of a rivalry as both teams have been neck and neck at the top of the division going back to last season. The division once belonged to Los Angeles Angels, who were heavy favorites to win with the new addition, but are a bitter disappointment and as of now a non-factor to compete with the A’s and Rangers.

As the A’s and Rangers set out to conclude their four game series this afternoon, with the Rangers already winners of 2 of 3, Oakland had a chance in the ninth inning to tie the game and possibly leave Arlington, Texas with a split. With 2 outs and a 3-2 count on batter Seth Smith. Josh Donaldson took off on the pitch from first base and Smith hits a line drive that dropped in front of Craig Gentry.

You can’t make that up and as Texas Ranger’s voice announcer Tom Grieve describes,”That’s more exciting than a game winning home run.”

I have to agree with that!
