Report: Tim Lincecum to be put on trade block
According to the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo, Tim Lincecum will be available via trade after the end of this season.
Lincecum had a down year for the Giants, having a 5.18 ERA over 33 starts. The Giants believe that Lincecum’s struggles were “strictly mechanical.” I find it hard to believe that flawed mechanics are going to make your fastball go from 96 MPH to 92 MPH, but whatever helps you sleep at night.
The former two time Cy Young winner is definitely coming off of a down year and is due to make $22 million next year. It’s believed that most teams won’t pay the entire amount of the salary, so the Giants may be forced to pay some of Lincecum’s contract. There may be several teams willing to take the risk with Lincecum. He’s only under contract for one more season and the rewards of getting a possible a shutdown number one starter may outweigh his recent struggles and hefty salary.
