The Andrew Cashner Opportunity – Kantor’s Fantasy Corner

  • Ryan Kantor

Andrew Cashner, San Diego Padres’ starting pitcher, enters his start Thursday with a 3.38 ERA. He plays for a mediocre club, but in an advantageous ball park. He is injury prone, but has a high ceiling. He has great stuff, but a thin track record. How should you approach this interesting fantasy case?

Cashner is available in 59% of fantasy leagues so it’s likely you can snap him up if you want him. What makes him so intriguing are his severe home-road splits. At the spacious confines of PETCO Park, he has a minuscule 1.93 ERA, however on the road his ERA balloons to an ugly 4.61. Luckily for fantasy owners, that makes decisions pretty simple.

If you have the roster space to burn on half of a starting pitcher, Andrew Cashner is a high up-side starter who can help managers that may be saddled with struggling aces like CC Sabathia or Cole Hamels. He starts in PETCO against the Mariners on Thursday, 5/30, so grab before the start if you need help.
