WATCH: Albert Pujols delivers walk-off home run in 19th inning
After 401 minutes and 18 pitchers, it took just one hack by Los Angeles Angels 1B Albert Pujols to send what was left of the 42K crowd in Anaheim home happy. Check out the opposite field Pujols-special off of Boston Red Sox reliever Brandon Workman that survived a replay review (via MLB.com)
The Sox had a chance in the 14th to win it, but since Koji Uehara had already been used, make-shift closer Junichi Tazawa couldn’t protect it. The game epitomozes the season for the two teams, as the Angels have surged from missing the playoffs two straight seasons to be the second best team in the American League, and the Red Sox falling from their World Champions status to a “seller” at the trade deadline.
Because of the west coast start and length of the game, it was well after 3:00 a.m. EDT. With a normal 7:05 PDT start, it would have been after 4:00 EDT. At 19 innings, it was the longest MLB game this year.
