Derek Sanderson Jeter is likely going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. We all know that he has announced his retirement following the 2014 season. He’ll be going out on his terms.

We’re likely going to hear players’ accounts on a daily basis through September (October if the Yankees make the Playoffs). It’s just starting, so we may as well get used to it.

This video (courtesy of Yankees.com) gives the accounts of several current Yankees.  Watch as Mark Teixera, Carlos Beltran, Brett Gardner, Brian McCann, C.C. Sabathia, Brian Roberts, Joe Girardi, and David Robertson talk about their memories of Jeter’s career and what it has been like or what it will be like to play with a legend on his farewell tour:

It’s sad to see Jeter go, but he’s had a great career so far and I’d hate to see him be forced out of baseball because of dwindling skills. He still feels that he can play and he feels healthy.

Jeter owns a career .312 batting average and is tenth on MLB’s all-time career hits list with 3,316 going into the 2014 season. He’s only four hits from passing Paul Molitor for ninth all time. Jeter has an outside shot at 3,500 hits, but he’ll need to stay healthy and have a great year.

Jeter has been a great spokesman for the game of baseball. He has been free of off the field scandal in one of the biggest media markets in the world. He has remained consistently good without even a whiff of PED talk and he’s widely regarded as a great guy. He should get a sendoff similar to that of former Yankees closer Mariano Rivera.
