WATCH: Ezequiel Carrera’s full-extension dive
The Detroit Tigers may have lost to the New York Yankees 2-1, but they may have found something better than one game. They may have found their new center fielder. After playing 97 games in AAA Toledo and hitting .307 with 43 steals, this was Ezequiel Carrera’s third game with the Tigers and first start. All Carrera did was this (mlb.com).
Defensively it’s all downhill from here for Carrera. Carrera is the replacement for Austin Jackson, who was sent to the Seattle Mariners as part of the Tigers’ acquisition of David Price. Jackson finished first in defensive WAR in the American League in 2011.
Nobody has heard of Carrera, but he did play in 118 games with the Cleveland Indians and 13 with the Philadelphia Phillies.
