The Greensboro College Pride pulled off a very rare triple play against the Maryville (TN) Scots in NCAA Division III baseball action yesterday.

The strange play happened in the top of the third inning. The ball was caught by the right fielder who doubled up the runner who had left first base. Then for some reason, the runner on third thought it would be a good idea to go home, and the first baseman threw him out at home.

If you’re scoring at home folks, that one goes 9-3-2 TP.

Check out the play here:

I give credit to Greensboro for being so alert of the base runners and capitalizing on their mistakes. I honestly don’t know what Maryville was thinking.

Maryville made up for their base running blunders on the early triple play and ended up winning the game by a score of 5-4 in 12 innings.
