Who is the Dodgers Jose Peraza?
The Los Angeles Dodgers recently promoted a second baseman by the name of Jose Peraza. When I saw the highlight video of him hitting a triple in his Major League debut, I was shocked by how young he looked. He appears like he would be just starting his junior year of high school. I had to do some research because he is not a Dodgers prospect I was familiar with.
Peraza is young, 21 years old to be exact. The Venezuela native was signed as an International Free Agent by the Atlanta Braves at the tender age of 16. To put it bluntly, this guy is a stud. In 2014 he had a .339 batting average with 60 steals across two levels of the minor leagues. In the same season he was names the Top Prospect in the Braves organization.
When Howie Kendrick was placed on the 15 day disabled list, there was an opening in the Dodgers lineup. Peraza is a natural second baseman, but excelled this season in centerfield. Peraza was acquired in the three-team trade involving the Marlins, Braves, and Dodgers on July 31. With top prospect Kyle Seager in Triple-A, and Joc Pederson having a breakthrough season, the future is looking bright for the Dodgers who have not won a World Series since 1988.
