Report: Aldon Smith likely to miss start of regular season
49ers linebacker Aldon Smith will be sentenced July 25 after pleading no contest to a DUI and felony weapons charges. While Smith will probably avoid jail time, the league will most likely hand down a suspension.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Smith likely won’t receive jail time at his sentencing, if he can stay out of trouble over the next month. However, regardless of whether he receives simply an order of probation, the league office remains expected to suspend him for at least one game, possibly more.
The NFL won’t move until Smith is sentenced, and whatever the sentence is will determine the league’s course of action. Either way, we can expect to see Smith miss at least the start of the season, if not longer.
