  • Andy Flint

Clinton Portis will retire as a member of the Washington Redskins. A statement released by the Redskins said that they will hold a retirement news conference Thursday for the former stud running back.

Clinton Portis hasn’t played a game in the NFL since 2010, but managed a staggering 11,941 total yards and 80 TD’s from 2002-2010. Portis faced some injuries and ultimately has decided to call it quits at the age of 30, after nice successful seasons in the NFL.

Clinton Portis will retire as a fan favorite for the Redskins and this announcement will come in time for the Redskins to release their “10 for 80″ (on Friday).  This is the next 10 added to the Washington Redskins list of all-time great Redskins’ players. The list is of the 70 best Skins players, but will expand that list from 70 to 80 in honor of their 80th season.

Portis and his fandom within the Washington public may earn his way into the top 80 players list. Portis was known for his valuable skill at carrying the load and making plays in the open field. Portis could run inside, outside and catch passes with the best of them. To many fans and players around the league, Portis was known as a work horse during his tenure with the Redskins.
