Shannon Brown’s Monster Two-Handed Put Back Dunk

Last night during the midst of Kobe Bryant’s “once again” trimmin’ of the Phoenix Suns, there was a dunk that brought the Laker faithful to their feet. Former Los Angeles Laker Shannon Brown came out of nowhere to throw down a monster two-handed dunk off a Markieff Morris missed three-point attempt.

Can somebody tell me why Shannon Brown isn’t in the Dunk Contest but Chase Budinger is? Better yet with the Lakers lacking athleticism and youth in their backcourt why they didn’t keep this guy?

Check out the dunk!

  • David

Budinger, as I’m sure you probably don’t know, has some leap in his game. Try watching a few YouTube clips so you don’t make yourself out to be wholly ignorant on the subject. Shannon Brown was already a participant in the slam dunk contest and gave a mediocre performance. Budinger is legit

    • http://www.sports-kings.com Jason Whitney

LOL saying “Why is Chase in the dunk contest and Shannon is not makes me ignorant?” SMH. I hope David comes back to the chat board when Chase finishes last in the dunk contest. He couldn’t even beat Gerald Henderson in high school, yeah he’s a high flying dunk machine – well probably in Davy’s book. In fact his youtube dunk mix has clips of him taking jump shots!! You know in between the plethora of two handed generic dunks he is doing. I’m pretty sure you’re in the minority taking Budinger over Shannon Brown btw, and there has been a ton of dunk participants that have played in multiple Dunk Contests. That holds no weight with me. Sorry Dave.

PS: Every message board I’ve seen has at least 90 percent of the comments geared towards this potentially being the worst Dunk Contest ever. To be honest it’s probably higher. I youtubed Chase high school Mcdonalds dunk contest and it was a one handed dunk that I’ve seen 10,000 times on a nightly basis, a decent windmill , and the old between the legs dunk that I’m almost positive everyone in the NBA that is his height 6’7 could do waking up out of bed.

Please come back David after the Dunk Contest! Better yet I want your prediction on Chase

      • David

Top 2 and I wouldn’t be surprised if he won it. not lying

        • http://www.sports-kings.com Jason Whitney

Well there is only 4 contestants LOL..Did you just hear Kenny say, “budinger is my pick” and Miller go, “are you serious” lmfao!

          • David

yeah, i’m sure you really laughed up and down your living room on that comment… really hilarious comment from Miller – one for the ages in comedy lore

        • http://www.sports-kings.com Jason Whitney

Chuck “The last three dunks have been impressive” leaving out Budinger! Wow I am in my glory right now!

          • David

rewind the tape and you’ll hear that even chuck said about Budinger’s windmill being impressive… that it was from the dotted line. But, keeping it real, I was disappointed he chose to do his HS dunk again….

          • http://www.sports-kings.com Jason Whitney

David If you can honestly tell me with a straight face that Budingers dunks were impressive I cannot talk basketball with you. I’m sorry man but he was maybe the 3rd best dunker out of 4 dunkers. Here is ESPN’s John Hollinger’s report card for the dunks. He gave Budinger a D+. I’m sure you’ll dismiss everything about him now despite the fact that his expertise is hoops on the worlds best platform for sports but here it is:

http://espn.go.com/nba/allstar2012/story/_/page/scorecard2012-dunk-contest/dunk-contest Barely nudging out Derek Williams who I completely disagree with. Williams had two dunks better than any of Budingers. If it wasn’t for Williams screwing up the last dunk he def would have received a C at the worst.

Here is another review from Yahoo’s “Ball Don’t Lie.” They had the best dunk by Budinger ranked 10th!!!! Also saying this dunk contest sucked:

            http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/ranking-2012-dunk-contest-dunk-dunk-055454365.html

Also I don’t really care about the “fan” vote as that is the most flawed system if there has ever been one. I’d expect you to know this at least. Christ Yao Ming was selected to start the all star game last year or the year before despite playing in like 4 games LOL. Don’t even get me started on the fan vote.

really just type it into google for any further proof about how much this dunk contest sucked. It was about props and average dunks in terms of a “dunk contest.” George had the most impressive dunks followed by Williams. Evans had one good dunk and wins it lol.

BTW the height difference between Kevin Hart and PDiddy is probably 2 inches LOL. And I never heard with any conviction Chuck, Shaq, Kenny be wowed, or impressed with any of Budingers dunks. In fact they were talking how he used his left hand at one point to jump over Diddy. I’m sorry man but the only reason I watched (besides the fact that I had money on it lol) was because of us arguing over Chase Budinger LMAO. Otherwise completely dissapointed!

        • http://www.sports-kings.com Jason Whitney

Since I doubt we’ll be seeing David respond or anyone else who said Chase budinger would win, I’d like to say the Twitter and comment threats EVERYWHERE has talked about how this dunk contest was awful! Paul George should have won, then Derrick Williams…Budinger used his hand to jump over 5 foot 1 inch Kevin Hart! Also did the same dunk he did in high school except Derrick Williams did it over a motorcycle!

Bottom line boys is we can argue all we want, to many props and that dunk contest sucked

          • David

i didn’t say he would win, i said top 2, wouldn’t be surprised if he did… despite the fact that he did finish in the top 2 based on the votes, I got to admit I was disappointed in his choices, but I don’t think the contest sucked at all by any means. People are spoiled and don’t appreciate the 2 ball dunk by Evans, Paul Georges dunk over 7’2 Hibbert… come on now. Even Paul George’s last dunk was ridiculously difficult. People were disappointed because there weren’t any marquee names, but i’m sorry, those marquee names are not going to do much better than this…the best dunkers in the world are not in the NBA. So, totally disagree on the point that this contest sucked – Evan’s and George’s dunks > Griffin’s car hood dunk (and I’m sure you were probably excited over what was probably the lamest “winningest” dunk in the history of the contest). BTW, Budinger didn’t jump over Kevin Hart – he jumped over P Diddy. anyways…

    • http://network.yardbarker.com/nba/article_external/backyard/shannon_browns_monster_two_handed_put_back_dunk/9991153?refmod=backyard Mark

Big deal…..take a look at that pisspoor defense…nobody was with their man and nobody blocked out….hello…it’s a highlight film of just how poor in fundamentals the NBA players are….It’s just evolved to the best athletes with rules forcing circus moves instead of team moves…..that’s why the Euro League is the bomb and the NBA has evolved to a “Glob Trotters” level of skills and play……Bank on that reality….!!!

      • http://www.sports-kings.com Jason Whitney

I can agree with that Mark. I think in today’s game it’s all about the highlight dunk. I personally love college hoops because they play defense and you don’t see “star” players getting preferential treatment. I hate when I see Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Pierce, driving down the lane and getting fouls or bail outs all the time. I hate how 6’10 big men step in front of someone going up for a dunk or layup to draw the charge. It’s not hoops. Imagine playing outside and you going up for a layup and someone coming underneath you and trying to draw a charge. You’d flip out ya know. Sorry to get off topic here, but I can agree that the NBA is more of a narcissistic sport and no “team” involved anymore

        • parrish barwick

very good reply in my opinion. I have always wondered why the greats need the extra help from the ref.

  • David

(LOL saying “Why is Chase in the dunk contest and Shannon is not makes me ignorant?” SMH.)

it makes you ignorant because you tried to pass it off as a knock on Chase, as if the man can’t jump/dunk… fail.

(He couldn’t even beat Gerald Henderson in high school, yeah he’s a high flying dunk machine – well probably in Davy’s book.)

Also several more demerits on your knowledge of the game – how is losing to Gerald Henderson in a dunk contest really that shameful?! Never said he was a high flying dunk machine, don’t know where you came up with that one – my main contention is your ignorance and lame attempt of an insult. And while you’re perusing his clips, I suggest you look at that put back dunk several times again and observe the hang time and head hovering rim level… you know the clip.

(I’m pretty sure you’re in the minority taking Budinger over Shannon Brown btw, and there has been a ton of dunk participants that have played in multiple Dunk Contests. That holds no weight with me. Sorry Dave.)

I don’t know what sentence above you we were reading, but I didn’t mention I would take Chase over Shannon – look above to find out why i wrote the post to begin with. My point in mentioning that Shannon was already in a dunk contest was to first and foremost, further deflate your attempt to insult Chase given that we’ve already seen him and there’s really nothing further to watch given that performance. Also, those who were multiple performers either won the darn comp and chose to defend their title, or they actually gave worthy performances and wanted to capture a title… not give an encore to a subpar outing.

(PS: Every message board I’ve seen has at least 90 percent of the comments geared towards this potentially being the worst Dunk Contest ever. To be honest it’s probably higher)

What has this got to do with my Post?! Useless, pointless info.

(I youtubed Chase high school Mcdonalds dunk contest and it was a one handed dunk that I’ve seen 10,000 times on a nightly basis, a decent windmill , and the old between the legs dunk that I’m almost positive everyone in the NBA that is his height 6’7 could do waking up out of bed)

The windmill was more than decent, as he was not doing a vertical jump at the basket-type windmill that most players do. And I agree that the between the legs dunk i old, but sorry dude, everybody in the NBA cannot do it “waking up out of bed”. I would say most players in the NBA CAN’T do that…please.

    • http://www.sports-kings.com Jason Whitney

      David easy with the book!

I love how you interpret me saying “Why is Chase Budinger in the Dunk Contest and Shannon Brown is not,” as me saying He can’t jump or dunk, yet totally refute all of my assertions of your interpretations.

Also you keep saying “my attempts to insult,” yet you’re the one doing all the insulting saying I’m ignorant and have no knowledge because you know, anytime you say Chase Budinger shouldn’t be in the Dunk Contest that means you know nothing.

David I mentioned the Dunk Contest as potentially being one of the worst ever because of the participants involved – which Chase is, so it absolutely makes sense and isn’t pointless.

As far as you saying you don’t think any 6’7 NBA player can’t do the dunks he has performed makes me question your knowledge of the game. Are you from Alaska and don’t get satellite to watch NBA games? I don’t care about two handed put back dunks. I’m telling you EVERY NBA player that is 6’7 can do that..SMH. If you think that windmill was nuts then you obviously have low expectations when it comes to dunking.

Anyways why don’t you tell me what place Chase will come in the Dunk Contest?

      • DP

Chase Budinger is actually a lot better then you think. Just because he doesn’t put up great numbers doesn’t mean he’s not good. When you make the roster your good. maybe not the best. Who’s complaining. If there is no Biased. Chase could finish top 3.

      • Jonathan

To answer your original question without getting into who is more deserving of being in the dunk contest, Shannon Brown is probably not in this year’s contest because based on what he did last time, he’s not a very good dunk contest-type dunker.

  • I Got Knowledge

David, seems like you were right and Jason was wrong! As far as I’m concerned the dunk contest would’ve been even worse if Shannon Brown joined! Who wants to see another lack luster dunker after already seeing 4 of them? That’s like having a 3 point contest featuring Vlade Divac, Mark Eaton, Bimbo Coles, and Michael Cage, then complaining, about why Cage is in and not Lafayette Lever! Get the F outta here with that Jason, and go read a Basketball History book, I suggest “FreeDarko Presents: The Undisputed Guide to Pro Basketball History”, it’s on sale for $10 on Amazon’s website.

      Omar/David/ and Friends LOL,

First off this will be my last comment on this matter lol. I appreciate you having your friends come comment on this article as it just gains my article even more traffic. Secondly I know it’s your friends because if they dislike Shannon Brown as much as they have said then there is no way they would “google Shannon Brown’s monster two handed dunk.” Also the article was written well over a week ago and out of the 15,000 hits it got only you 2 or 3 guys have continually kept it going. -Do I really need to grab the 20 writers on sports-kings.com site and have them stick up for me now?

Regarding the worst analogy in sports I’ve ever heard (no hyperbole) saying, that’s like having a 3pt contest with a bunch of scrubs that were centers, and oh Bimbo Coles makes no sense. Shannon Brown is actually a very good dunker with unreal leaping ability (well everyone knows him as a great dunker except you three cornballs who are in love with Chase Budiger LOL.) You named big man and a shitty point guard who couldn’t make a three point shot for the life of them. Please go over that analogy, I could find a half blown retarded kid who’s never watched a lick of hoops in their life to come up with a better analogy than that. Apples and Oranges goof.

Based on your comment ( I got no knowledge) I can already tell you are a friend of David, so seriously why waste time? Isn’t life short enough rather than to come on a blog and argue about a dunk that took place over a week ago. I made a generaliztation about the dunk contest and how Shannon Brown should be in it over a dude that doesn’t play and has 6 dunks on the season. Get a life lol really.

Yah, I’m sure the dunk contest would have been worse if Shannon Brown was in it and we missed out on Budinger’s blindfoled dunk (LMAO) and generic windmill that I’ve seen a hundered times in games, and don’t get me started on him using his left hand to jump over 5’7 PDIDDY…Not impressed and NEITHER WAS ESPN BLOGS, YAHOO’S BALLDONTLIE, so argue and leave comments for them, I’m sure they will read them from the 5 fans that thought Chase should have won or is nasty at dunking

So I guess we’ll have to wait for you guys to grab more commentors (WHICH WILL JUST BE BLOCKED) to rebuttle. Or we can just agree to disagree and move on in life lol. Or just all agree the Dunk Contest was crap lol
