Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t thank Kobe Bryant in Laker retirement ceremony, fans chant for Phil Jackson

Shaquille O’Neal had a great ceremony but forgot to thank his polarizing teammate, Kobe Bryant

During half-time of the Los Angeles Lakers game against the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers decided it would be a perfect time to retire Shaquille O’Neal’s number into the rafters. The ceremony was kicked off with Kobe Bryant thanking the big fella and telling him he deserves it among other touching words. In perfect Los Angeles fashion, the ceremony was great which included many anecdotes about Shaq from over the years.

Shaq thanked many former coaches, friends, celebrities, upper management and of course family. However, one person Shaq forgot to thank was Kobe Bryant. To be fair to Shaq, he didn’t thank any former teammates which was a bit odd considering most players go through a laundry list of former players that they played with.  “The Diesel” did talk more before the ceremony about his teammates but it seemed fairly brief.

This wasn’t the only awkward moment that took place. During Shaq’s thank you speech to former Lakers head coach, Phil Jackson, the fans started chanting in unison “we want Phil.”
