Tarvaris Jackson: “I’m all about winning championships.”

I have always thought that probable Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has gotten the raw end of every deal he’s been a part of. While he never put up eye-popping statistics, he did have some solid seasons in Minnesota and Seattle as a starter, while not being surrounded by the best of teams.

Jackson’s last few seasons in the NFL have been frustrating for him, as he had his best season as a pro in 2011 with Seattle. Even so, he was traded to Buffalo in late August for the 2012 season, meaning he didn’t have a chance to learn the playbook or compete for the job even though the Bills’ QB situation wasn’t exactly stellar. He never played a down for Buffalo, and is now back in Seattle competing for the second string job against Brady Quinn.

Via USA Today:

“I could have gone to other teams, but I’m in the eighth year of my career now, and I’m just trying to get to the Super Bowl,” he said. “I’m all about winning championships. I feel like that was my best chance among the teams I could choose from.”

“I found out the hard way, it’s a business,” he said. “It had always been football first for me, but now it’s kind of shown me the business part of the NFL. That’s what I signed up for, so I can’t really complain. I just have to do my job, collect my check and keep this going the best I can.”

Having been around the block a few times, Jackson is aware that he may never be a starter again, but will likely receive a contract extension in 2014 if he beats out Quinn for the job to backup Russell Wilson. Sometimes the NFL can be quite baffling, I personally thought that in 2012, Jackson was the best quarterback on Buffalo’s roster and he didn’t get half a chance. So it goes for Jackson. At least he got to play football for a living, started for a few years, and now back with Seattle, has a legit shot at winning a championship.
