The Heat are still mad over Spurs arena; will use for motivation
For the casual fan, you might not even know who won Game 1 of the NBA Finals. That is because the story that has gobbled up all of the headlines was the Spurs air conditioning system failing, thus causing Miami Heat star LeBron James to cramp and miss the final four minutes. This subsequently led to social media nearly crashing with the LeBron James memes, tweets and posts making fun of James being carried off the court. Well the Miami Heat don’t find any of this funny, especially the air conditioning malfunction. In fact, the Heat have decided to channel this frustration into motivation as the team heads into Game 2 tonight.
Via Miami Herald:
Spoelstra and his team are still angry over the conditions for Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The oppressive heat and humidity inside the arena that caused LeBron James to cramp and miss the final four minutes of the game will be a source of motivation for the defending back-to-back champions entering Game 2 on Sunday. James participated in the Heat’s light practice Saturday and will play in Game 2 after watching the end of Game 1 on the bench.
Coach Spoelstra even became sarcastic when speaking about the incident.
“We anticipate we will play in a very cool gym,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said before Saturday’s practice at the Spurs’ practice facility. “We will have to deal with that now. I don’t know if guys will be wearing tights under their shorts and long-sleeved shirts, I don’t know.”
I have a feeling we’ll be hearing about Game 1 of the 2014 NBA Finals for years to come. To bad it won’t be for the San Antonio Spurs winning the game.
