The 72-10 Chicago Bulls of 1996-1997 were truly dominate
The NBA currently includes several powerful teams. The Miami Heat for example have managed to build a dynasty in the East, after the formation of the Big Three. The San Antonio Spurs are an all-time classic and the Indiana Pacers are arguably the best-formed team currently. But what about the Top 5 teams in the NBA for the past 30 years? Which are the most successful and dominant teams of the past 30 years?
5.) Chicago Bulls 1991-92
One thing is for sure. When Michael Jordan is onboard, any team can’t be anything but successful. That’s exactly what happened with the Bulls of the 1991-92 season. They recorded 67 victories and 15 wins, with Jordan having a major role in this superb run. Of course, he got a much needed support from Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright and John Paxson. The Bulls won the championship during that year, too.
4.) Detroit Pistons 1988-89
With a 63-19 record the Detroit Pistons of the 1988-89 season were the third most successful team in the history of the NBA. Isaiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman and Mark Aguirre were the core of the team back then. The Pistons of 1988-89 were one of the best teams on defense during that era. They went on to sweep the Los Angeles Lakers during the NBA Finals and win the NBA Championship.
3.) Chicago Bulls 1996-97
A team that featured Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman couldn’t be anything else but successful. Ron Harper, Toni Kukoc and Steve Kerr The Bulls went on to dominate in the 1996-97 season, recording an amazing 72 victories and just 10 losses. This was a season when the Bulls won their second championship in a row. The Bulls of course were successful many more years with the same roster.
2.) Los Angeles Lakers 1986-87
The Los Angeles Lakers could be missing from our list of the Top 5 teams in NBA history. The Lakers of the 1986-87 season were indeed one of the best teams to ever play in the league. They recorded a 65-17 season and they went on to win the NBA Championship, defeating the Boston Celtics 4-2 in the NBA Finals. The team featured Magic Johnson, Kareem Adbul-Jabbar, Byron Scott, James Worthy and many more significant members. Johnson recorded a breakaway season with 23.9 points and also led the league in assists with 12.2. This was a season that every Lakers fan of that era would remember.
1.) Boston Celtics 1985-86
The biggest rivals of the Los Angeles Lakers at that time were the Boston Celtics. A team that featured Larry Bird, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, Danny Ainge and Bill Walton recorded a spectacular regular season. They won 40 out of their 41 games at home, recording the best home winning percentage of the era .976. The Celtics went on the defeat the Houston Rockets in the NBA Finals, with a 4-2 record in the series and won the championship.
