Trent Richardson sets lofty 2014 goal for himself
The third overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, running back Trent Richardson, has been quite the disappointment so far in his young career. He was traded by the Cleveland Browns to the Indianapolis Colts last season, and averaged 2.9 yards a carry after the move.
However, Colts coaches have had high praise for Richardson, and they expect a huge comeback season from him. The running back wasn’t short on confidence either.
“A thousand is not the goal,” he said, per The Indianapolis Star. “For me, it’s personal. I’m going to keep it to myself. But a thousand is not it for me. It’s higher…”
“I can’t wait to be involved in the passing game, even if it’s just pass blocking,” Richardson said. “I’m trying to be a three-down back. It would be four if they let me play special teams.”
It’s still too early to label Richardson a bust, but he hasn’t come close to living up to his draft position. Indianapolis’ backfield is quite thin at the moment, so they’ll need him to not only be a three-down back, but be a productive one at that.
