The San Francisco 49ers announced they have extended the contract of general manager Trent Baalke. Today, Baalke inked a three-year extension, which will keep him in San Francisco through the 2016 season. Baalke, who was promoted to his current position from Vice President of Player Personnel in January 2011, was a guiding force in quickly rebuilding a team that went 6-10 in 2010 to 13-3 and a berth in the NFC Championship game in 2011. For his efforts, Baalke was named the Pro Football Writers Association 2011 Executive of the Year. Baalk was originally hired by the 49ers in 2005 as a Western region scout. Baalke had previously worked for both the Washington Redskins and the New York Jets.
