On Day 3 of the NFL Scouting Combine, word broke out that Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei would have to return home, after a echo-cardiogram revealed that the All American defensive tackle had a heart condition that required more testing.
However, Mike Garafolo of USA Today reported that Lotulelei has been given permission to resume working out. The doctors are hopeful that the reason for the abnormal results were caused by other factors, which may not be as serious as initially feared.
According to Garafolo is that “dehydration, too much sodium in his diet or rapid weight loss in a short timeframe” was the reason for his left ventricle working less efficiently than normal.
Lotulelei had lost 10 pounds in three days recently, may had been the result of the abnormal testing. Lotulelei will see a specialist later this week and still plans of working out at Utah pro day on March 20.
Lotulelei is the No. 1 overall player as ranked by Scouts, Inc., and has been rated as a top 5 draft prospect by several draft experts, including ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. Will this affect his draft position? Only time will tell.
