On a night where the Ottawa Senators clinched a playoff berth with a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals, Alex Ovechkin stole the show yet again with another highlight reel goal. Ovechkin took a pass from Marcus Johansson, which was almost a turnover when Chris Philips looked liked he was going to turn the tide with a solid defensive play. But The Great 8 had other plans. Ovechkin took the pass, flew around Philips, and power-swept a goal past goalie Craig Anderson. His 32nd of the year, Ovechkin now has a three goal lead over division rival Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophy. Ovechkin’s 54 points trails Stamkos’ teammate Martin St. Louis for the league lead. St. Louis’ 58 points has him leading the race for the Art Ross Trophy with only two games to go. St. Louis took the lead with a hat trick in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs two days ago.
