Urban Meyer on Tim Tebow’s NFL return: “I still don’t get it”
Tim Tebow is one of the most celebrated quarterbacks in the history of college football, and he enjoyed a brief stint of success with the Denver Broncos in the NFL. However, he was cut from the New England Patriots before the start of the 2013 season, and has been out of the league ever since.
Despite this, Tebow has kept training in hopes that a team will give him another shot. His former Florida Gators coach, Urban Meyer, doesn’t understand why Tebow hasn’t gotten another chance.
“I still don’t get that part of it,” Meyer said Tuesday at Big Ten Media Days. “He’s the second-most efficient passer ever to play college football…”
“He had really good personnel around him (at Florida) and we utilized his skill very well,” Meyer said. “I think in a traditional setting, it is difficult, but there’s a lot of non-traditional offenses now in the NFL…”
“He’ll be successful in whatever he does, but he’s such a good player,” Meyer said. “I just wish it would work out for him.”
I personally find it hard to believe there isn’t a spot for a guy like Tebow somewhere on an NFL roster. While he isn’t a great traditional quarterback, he is a good football player that can do a number of things. We’ll see as the summer moves along if any team takes a flyer on him, but don’t count on it.
