The Portland Trail Blazers were in the Big Easy on Sunday to face the New Orleans Hornets (or Pelicans), which meant rookie phenoms, Damian Lillard and Anthony Davis would take the hardwood to square off in a game that, well, doesn’t have any playoff implications. Despite the lack of deep meaning, this game didn’t lack any drama.
This particular play came with about 7:30 seconds to go in the third quarter. J.J. Hickson takes the ball hard to rack, only to be denied by rookie big man, Anthony Davis. Davis, known for his length and shot-blocking abilities, gets off the clean block and forces a jump ball.
The Hornets had a 61-53 lead at this point, and would eventually hold on to win at home by a score of 98-96. Anthony Davis finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and this single blocked shot. J.J. Hickson continued to be a double-double machine, recording 14 points and 14 boards. Rookies stud, Damian Lillard had 20 points and 8 helpers in the loss.
One thing is clear, Lillard and Davis continue to build their legacies, on the way to fighting it out for rookie of the year honors in 2013.
