According to TMZ.com, in a surveillance video from an Atlantic City casino, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice appears to be dragging his unconscious fiancee, Janay Palmar, out of an elevator, mere moments after police reports say they attacked each other on the property. Rice and Palmer were both arrested after the incident occurred on February 15th and police say they have additional video which shows both of them were attacking each other.
UPDATE: Here is the summons for Rice which indicates he struck Palmer, knocking her out:
In the video, Rice appears to be dragging Palmer haphazardly out of the elevator; a man of his physique should have been able to carry a woman on his shoulder rather than awkwardly attempting to pull her out. While he is being questioned by what appears to be a security member, Rice half heartedly moves Palmer’s legs, as if attempting to get them out the elevator doorway.
Rice’s attorney spoke briefly to TMZ regarding the video and had this to say:
“Neither Ray nor myself will try this case in the media. However, the video that’s being posted by TMZ Sports is not the complete event but is merely the end of what transpired.”
Regardless of what “transpired,” if Rice hit her hard enough to knocker her out, there is simply no excuse for his behavior. Expect the NFL and the Ravens to monitor this situation very closely to determine what course of action they take next.
Rice signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the team in 2012. Since being drafted by the Ravens in the 2nd round of the 2008 draft, he has rushed for 6,180 yards and 37 touchdowns, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.
