WATCH: Andrea Pirlo miss an incredible free kick vs. England at World Cup

  • Marcus Burnan

Wow.  Just wow.  That is all I can say about this miss.

During stoppage time of the Italy and England game on Saturday night, Italy were awarded a free kick from 30 yards out.  Up stepped Italy’s midfield general and dead ball expert Andrea Pirlo.  From 30 yards out Pirlo sent the England defensive wall completely the wrong way, striking the ball with the outside of his boot.

The ball stuck the cross bar and didn’t go in for a goal, but it was still an absolutely incredible effort.  Pirlo knew exactly what he was doing.  Had it gone in, it would have been up there with Brazil’s Roberto Carlos’ ‘banana kick’ from 1997 as one of the greatest free kick goals ever.

Italy won the game 2-1.
