WATCH: David Ortiz chasing down a fly ball is HILARIOUS
Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is one of the greatest players of his era, but there is a reason why he is just a designated hitter. Big Papi just isn’t very light on his feet and you’ll never confuse him for being quick and nimble. However, that still doesn’t mean we can’t have a laugh at Papi’s expense while watching him try to play the field.
Which leads us to last night when the Red Sox were playing an interleague game against the Cincinnati Reds. This meant Ortiz had to play first base due to the National League rules of not being allowed to have a designated hitter. So of course, as fate would have it, Papi was in a situation during the bottom of the eighth inning of a one run game. Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco hit a pop up down the first base line in which Ortiz would proceed to hustle after the ball in foul territory in an attempt to make a great catch. The only problem is it took Big Papi about an hour to track down the fly ball which eventually would become a souvenir for a Red’s fan.
