WATCH: Victor Martinez makes ridiculous no-look play at first base

  • Jason Whitney

Victor  Martinez, made one of the best plays of the season during the Detroit Tigers 7-5 comeback  victory over the Boston Red Sox this afternoon. With the Tigers trailing 4-3 with two outs in the sixth inning, Jacoby Ellsbury hit a rocket down the first base line. Victor Martinez then made a spectacular diving play, robbing Ellsbury of at least a double in a close game. But the diving play just stopped the ball, as Martinez had to chase the ball from trickling away. Martinez, then tossed the ball from the glove without looking to pitcher, Drew Smyly. To everyone’s surprise, not only was Smyly there, he beat the speedy Ellsbury for the out at first.
