Another exciting Major League Soccer (MLS) season is underway in the USA as Atlanta United defend the MLS Cup that they won in only their second season as a league member.
There are plenty of matches being played over the coming months in the main season. That’s followed by the play-offs and of course there are plenty of betting opportunities available for each game. Western Conference
This is one of the two conferences that make up the MLS and so far, this season it has been dominated by teams from Los Angeles. Top of the table are Los Angeles FC who have made a storming start to their season with only one defeat in their first 16 games to open up a big lead at the top of the table. Mexican striker Carlos Vela is in top form with 16 goals, making it 30 in the last two seasons.
LA Galaxy missed out on the play-offs last season but are second in the table this term but nine points behind the leaders. With only 22 goals (just eight on their travels) and six league defeats already, they need to be more consistent in the coming weeks and months. Heaven knows where they’d be if Galaxy didn’t have Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has scored 11 goals this season.
The big surprise in this MLS season has been the form of last year’s Western Conference winners Sporting Kansas City. They have only won three of 15 games and have a fight on their hands if they are to make the play-offs.
Also struggling are Portland Timbers who lost in the MLS Cup final last year. Only one of their first 15 league games has been played at home due to work being carried out on their stadium, so look out for improved results from the conference’s bottom team.
Eastern Conference
Atlanta United won the MLS Cup last year and are again having a good season. They are currently fourth in this conference but would go top If winning their games in hand on the leaders.
Currently top are Philadelphia Union but have played many of their games at home. Manchester United fans have plenty of interest in this conference. Wayne Rooney is doing well with DC United who are third in the table. Rooney has scored eight goals this season, but his team are drawing too many games.
Also scoring eight goals is another ex-Manchester United player Nani, now of Orlando City. They could do with him scoring a few more as they are just outside the play-off places.
The next few months are sure to be an exciting time with teams battling for play-off places. So, follow the league and of course all the betting opportunities available for all matches.
