Los Angeles FC mean business with stellar signings 0

Leading the MLS Western Conference table, destiny appears to be calling for Los Angeles FC during the 2022 campaign. The team led by head coach Steve Cherundolo has also strengthened their chances of success, adding two legendary European players to an already powerful squad, alongside extending the terms of an existing icon.

Given how exceptionally well the current season is going for LAFC, they are widely tipped as potential champions according to the latest odds. Nevertheless, given how competitive the MLS has become, comparing odds and promotions at the top betting sites via SBO is always worthwhile, accompanied by expert sportsbook guides and information resources.

Only time will tell if LAFC can prove capable of meeting their high expectations, having thrilled fans with their latest signings, although the strength of their squad would suggest MLS Cup success beckons this year. Key to that success will be the performances of three special players.

Italian defensive icon Giorgio Chiellini

Despite the fact that defender Giorgio Chiellini will celebrate his 38th birthday in August, there was no hesitation from LAFC about signing the vastly experienced Italian. This is a player who has been there and done it all throughout his career, winning the Serie A title in Italy nine times with Juventus, where he also lifted the Coppa Italia five times. Representing his national team, Chiellini also captained Italy as they won the UEFA European Championship in 2020.

Chiellini was formally presented on June 29 at the Banc of California Stadium. “Giorgio is a special, one-of-a-kind player and person,” enthused LAFC co-President and General Manager, John Thorrington, making this a “unique opportunity” for the club. “He is a serial winner at the highest levels,” underlined Thorrington, delighted the player had chosen to represent LAFC.

The deal to sign Chiellini until 2023 was made possible via the Targeted Allocation
Money (TAM) regulation, within the rules of the MLS transfer system. “I’m looking
forward to winning many more trophies in Los Angeles,” said Chiellini during his
presentation, confident he has plenty to offer his new club.
Welsh wonder Gareth Bale

Arguably the most successful European player ever to grace the MLS, the arrival of
Gareth Bale was unexpected and thrilling in equal measure. The Welshman departed
Real Madrid upon the expiry of his contract, having won every major honor that was
possible with the Spanish giants. Never before has a four-times UEFA Champions
League winner featured in the MLS, which means the signing of Bale is a huge coup for
LAFC.

During his time in the midst of a Real Madrid golden era, Bale also won three LaLiga titles, the Copa del Rey once, plus the Supercopa de España once. He also helped the team to three UEFA Super Cup triumphs and three FIFA Club World Cup triumphs. Needless to say, the talents of Bale were highly coveted, especially after helping Wales to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Understandably, the MLS itself was hyped at the arrival of such a famous and talented player, announcing the arrival of superstar Gareth Bale with great fanfare. “I am extremely excited for this move to LAFC,” said the man himself, eager to get settled in the “incredible city” of Los Angeles. Fans throughout the MLS will be keen to see Bale in action, given his trajectory in the game and the potential to be a huge attraction in the United States.

Mexican maestro Carlos Vela renewal

While the incredible transfer moves for Chiellini and Bale have grabbed the headlines, LAFC has also achieved another astute piece of business. The day after announcing the arrival of bale, they also declared that Mexican star Carlos Vela had agreed to extend his terms at the club. “Carlos has been an integral piece of LAFC’s success on an off the field since the beginning,” was the delighted reaction of John Thorrington.

At the time of writing, Vela has made 102 appearances and scored 63 goals, following his arrival from Spanish side Real Sociedad in 2018. Since then, the Mexican maestro has firmly established himself as one of the very best players in the MLS, especially during a remarkable 2019 campaign, when he scored 38 goals in 36 appearances.

During the 2022 MLS campaign to date, Vela has registered 6 goals and 5 assists in 16 games, continuing to underline his importance for LAFC. “My goal is to win the MLS Cup with LAFC, and I will work hard to achieve our goal,” promised Vela when his new deal was announced. The 33-year-old certainly has the skills and the talent to reach that objective, particularly within a squad that keeps improving all the time.
