The people of Northampton Township, PA, have shown us what the spirit of a community is truly about. Sunday, April 29, 2012, a new baseball field specifically suited for children of special needs was opened and brought to life. With the help of countless volunteers, citizens, corporations, organizations and private donors, a dream baseball field is born at Northampton Municipal Park.
A national organization, known as the Miracle League, dedicates its time and efforts into building places for children of special needs to freely play. These fields are built with special care and loving hearts. The newest addition to the Miracle Fields took three years to complete from its conception to its grand opening. With the help of many, the foundation raised $1 million from donators. The plush new ballfield is rubberized and resembles a FieldTurf surface, complete with a scoreboard in left field.
The state-of-the-art ballfield is in the best of locations. It is centered in a thriving park where children of all kinds come for activities. Within this park are other baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, and hockey rinks. The special needs children can now play at a safe facility of their own and be close to all other activities with children their own age.
Such stories warm the heart and remind us of the important things in life. Community closeness and the care of our young sometimes get forgotten within the hectic world we live. We often get so caught up in our own lives that we forget how valuable inclusiveness is. When we take the time to think of all and not just us, we find the world a warmer place.
